I can. I did. I don’t.

I wish I had a gap someone could fill with geodes.

one of the many astounding collages by Meg Hitchock made by cutting letters from various books, including the Koran and Rushdie’s “Satanic Verses”. Highly recommend checking the rest of the collection on her site, where you can also see the detailed versions of each piece.

In my text drawings I deconstruct the word of God by cutting letters from sacred writings and rearranging them to form a passage from another holy book. I may cut letters from the Bible and reassemble them as a passage from the Koran, or use letters cut from the Torah to recreate an ancient Tantric text. The individual letters are glued to the paper in a continuous line of type, without spaces or punctuation, in order to discourage a literal reading of the text.

The 1968 Vote For Dick Gregory Counterfeit Dollar Bill

produced by Gregory for his campaign as a write-in candidate in the 1968 US presidential election. The bills were quickly seized by federal authorities, but Gregory managed to avoid charges. He later joked that the notes could never be mistaken for US currency, because a black man will never be on a US bill.

ORLY COGAN

“Orly Cogan’s work ranges from two-dimensional wall pieces to installations and photography, exploring the conventions of femininity through stitching into vintage fabrics. Her pieces are like pages of a sketchbook full of drawings which Cogan explores through more contrived compositions verging on fantasy. Embroidered female forms interact with each other and discreet objects, exploring feminine archetypes such as the Madonna/whore, the femme fatale and the beauty queen. Cogan plays with feminine sexuality and perspective, allegorical and abject in her narrative.”

(taken from ‘Contemporary Textiles’, black dog publishing)

These are great, (even if they are a bit rude) I love some of the simple stitching used.

workshop: Saturday March 3rd 2 - 4pm @ Place

In this workshop, Julie Perini will discuss the process behind the making of Collaboration with the Earth, her 16mm film from 2011 that provided source material for the new installation, Big Film, on view at Place Gallery through April 14,…

Man, I hope I’m well enough to make this. I really dig her work. Get it? Dig? wahwah. Seriously, though, Julie’s work is the shit.

too good
